THE FRIENDS OF KING'S LYNN MUSEUMS

The Friends of King’s Lynn Museums celebrated their 50th anniversary last October, coinciding with the total £1m Heritage Lottery funded refurbishment of the Lynn Museum. 2008 saw the official installation of the Bronze Age timber circle dubbed ‘Seahenge’ and the formal reopening of the Museum. The Bronze Age timber circle was revealed on the beach at Holme-next-the Sea, Norfolk, and after careful lifting and conserving the Museum is proud to have it as a stunning centrepiece to the recently refurbished site. The Friends continue to thrive, and membership numbers have increased this year - they now have 140 Friends - and as a result of running regular lectures, their funds are in a healthy state. Recent contributions to the Museums (there are two in King’s Lynn supported by Friends groups) have been sums towards the refurbishment and an IT project. Artefacts of local interest are frequently purchased by the Friends for the Museums, not least of which was the help given in the acquisition of Iceni gold coins, concealed in a cow horn, from a Norfolk site.
