USEFUL ORGANISATIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS

Department of Culture, Media and Sport
This Government department aims to improve the quality of life for all through cultural and sporting activities, to support the pursuit of excellence and to champion the tourism, creative and leisure industries.

World Federation of Friends of Museums
The WFFM is an international not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation that unites and supports all Friends of museums around the world. Legally constituted in Belgium in 1975, WFFM brings together a growing number of Friends and volunteers from all over the world, who understand the importance of combining their efforts in the conservation of mankind's cultural heritage. Its members, 18 national federations and 27 associations in 36 different countries, participate in the international, national, and regional activities of the organisation, currently representing nearly two million individuals.

Museums & Heritage Show
The Museums & Heritage Show is the UK's leading trade exhibition for the world of museums, galleries and heritage visitor attractions.

Culture24
Culture24 (formerly the 24 Hour Museum) is the UK's first national collection in cyberspace! In its first month it recorded some 2.75 million hits and many visitors found their way from the site to museum sites across the UK. The site lists over 2,000 museums and galleries.

English Heritage
English Heritage exists to protect and promote England's spectacular historic environment and ensure that its past is researched and understood.

National Heritage
National Heritage, the museums action movement, is a charity supporting, encouraging and when necessary criticising, museums and galleries in the UK. It also represents the interests of museum and gallery visitors and other users, and runs a ‘Heritage Watch’ scheme to identify and alert members and others to current threats to our heritage.

Charity Commission
The Charity Commission is the official regulator for charities in England and Wales.

Heritage Lottery Fund
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) was set up by Parliament in 1994 to give grants to a wide range of projects involving the local, regional and national heritage of the UK. It distributes a share of the money raised by the National Lottery for Good Causes. HLF is administered by the Trustees of the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) which allocates around £10 million per annum to our national heritage, acting as a fund of ‘last resort’.

National Museum Directors' Conference
The National Museum Directors' Conference represents the leaders of the UK's national collections and major regional museums. These comprise the national museums in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, four leading regional museums, the British Library, National Library of Scotland, and the National Archives.

Liverpool Heritage Forum
The Liverpool Heritage Forum, founded in January 2005, is made up of representatives of various voluntary cultural organisations active in Liverpool. Its objective is to improve contact between such organisations, and in particular to discuss how they can contribute to the celebrations in 2007 (Liverpool's 800th birthday year) and 2008 (Capital of Culture year).
