THE BAFM JOURNAL
BAFM's flagship 24-page, A4 Journal is published three times a
year - in Spring, Summer and Autumn - in full colour on gloss art paper and dispatched to member groups on publication.
The
BAFM Journal contains a wealth of information and news items connected to, about,
and of interest to member groups. Under its current volunteer editor the Journal has not only expanded in size and depth, but been transformed from a plain two-colour newsletter, into a bright, lively and informative full colour Journal which is the envy of many other charity groups and professional bodies.
BAFM is justifiably proud of its Journal, and it shows the very high standard and quality the Association strives for both internally and externally. Each issue regularly brings warm words of praise both from members and from those within the Heritage sector, including museum professionals and even government ministers.
THE BAFM JOURNAL - COMING ISSUE

Issue 97 Spring 2010 (available end March)
Cover Story: The Great Laxey Wheel, designed by the Victorian engineer, Mr Robert Casement, was built in 1854 to pump water from Laxey’s lead and zinc mines. It is a testament to its engineering ingenuity that it’s still the largest working water wheel in the world. The impressive 22m (77.5 feet) diameter structure found immediate popularity and has remained one of the Island’s most dramatic tourist attractions for over 150 years, arguably the Island’s best known landmark. The Great Laxey Wheel was named ‘Lady Isabella’ after the wife of the then Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man. The ‘Lady Isabella’ survived by courtesy of private endeavour until its purchase by the Manx Government in 1965 when a programme of complete restoration eventually returned the great wheel to its former glory. Today the Laxey Wheel is under the stewardship of Manx National Heritage and the wheel recently underwent a substantial refurbishment. Visitors can climb the steep spiral staircase to the viewing platform above the wheel, walk the picturesque trails and even enter a section of the mine.
